Kawasaki ZXR400

SP Racing's three riders use Kawasaki ZXR400 machines in the Formula 400 class. Although from first appearance they look very similar to the road going version, under the pattern SP Race Fairings bodywork lies a few of the team's own development extras. The engines, prepared by Sean Webster of R&S Performance Centre at Worksop, have had modest tuning to improve performance but yet to maintain optimum reliability. Exhaust systems have been changed for more performance and ease of maintenance. The front suspension is standard ZXR400 forks with the riders preferred settings and the rear suspension has been upgraded to a standard ZX6 rear shock absorber with gas compression damping. Race wiring looms have been fitted to all the machines to reduce weight and clutter within the frame which houses the team's own development "ram air" system and airbox. The ZXR400's excellent braking system is standard but with upgraded hoses and the rest of the road gear, lights, speedometer, rear footpegs, number plate etc, are also lost to reduce weight. Wheels are standard and the team run their preferred tyre choice.
